Thus Spake the Divine

Philosophy of God Manifested in Nature

Among creations of God, various kinds of beings have different types of powers or strength. Nature’s strength is higher in magnitude than those of others.

We possess certain physical strength and hence can carry some weight. Bullocks are more powerful than us. They can take on heavier things. Camels and elephants can carry much more weight as their power is greater.

Let us now examine intellectual power. A worm has more intellect than a plant. An ant is more intelligent than the worm. Comparatively, cattle have a higher understanding. Human beings are much more intelligent than animals.

If we keep contemplating along this line, it will be clear that, finally, there has to be one fundamental substance that possesses the absolute physical strength and intellectual power. That one substance is what we call Swami.

We use our physical and intellectual power to build a house. A bird uses its physical and brain power for building its nest. Similarly, there must be some Supreme Substance that has created this entire Universe utilising its physical and intellectual prowess, isn’t it? That is the Swami.

Thus, from the accumulative power of one substance over another, we get to understand the philosophy of God. We also see pairs of opposites in Nature, which are contrary to each other. If there is a severe winter season, there is a severe summer too. When there is night, there is also a day.

Where there are soft flowers, there exist thorns too. There is sweetness as against bitterness. There is hatred as contrary to the feeling of love. There are always opposite forces in nature.

If we analyse along these lines, there should also be an opposite force for the human mind, isn’t it? What is the basic nature of human mind? The human mind is confronted with desires and attachments. It wavers and struggles without contentment. Contrary to this, there should be a substance, which is absolutely resolute without any attachment to desires, and possesses eternal peace, happiness and contentment. That kind of substance is Swami. Everything is prone to undergoing a change in nature. Some changes are visible to us and others are not. Mountains and oceans too keep changing over time. Nothing is permanent in nature.

Contrary to this, there should be a substance that is not vulnerable to changes ever. That is Swami. There is metamorphosis among substances in nature. In the same nature, every creation undergoes constant changes. When the Goddess elucidates this truth of metamorphosis and change in nature, there also has to be an Infinite and ever-lasting Truth. This is what we call as Swami.

One may question why should we be worshipping that Infinite Truth? The answer is here. What is the nature of human beings? We are always confronted with perennial wants, whereas Paramatma is beyond any wants. We, who have innumerable wants, have very minimal power, whereas He, who has absolutely no wants, possesses the expansive omnipotent power. We are in a hollow pit and He is on the supreme height. Not only is He supreme in power and wisdom, He is also supreme in benevolence and compassion. That’s why when we worship him, He removes the dirt in the pit and fills it with water for us. Thus, it is only through absolute worship that we can get over our deficiencies.

If there is deficiency, it means that there is some need or want that needs to be fulfilled. If there is no need or want at all, then there is no deficiency. The Paramatma, who removes our deficiencies, will help us reach the stage, where we will have no needs or wants at all. We, who are in the hollow pits, will be elevated to the highland of God. At some point, we will become equal to the highland and eventually become part of the elevated highland of God.
